What Causes of Mesothelioma Cancer?

Mesothelioma cancer causes by asbestos revelation. Asbestos that is inhaled through the mouth and nose may finally become embedded in the lining of the lungs, causing harmful irritation of the pleura and resulting in mesothelioma or asbestos is (scar tissue formation in the lungs). It has also been found that swallowing asbestos fibers could contribute to a form of the malignancy originating in the abdomen known as peritoneal mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma cancer normally results from occupational asbestos exposure, but there are instances of environmental exposure that can also cause the disease. Often times a family member can be affected indirectly by secondhand experience from an asbestos worker’s soiled work clothes.

The major risk factor for mesothelioma is working with asbestos. Asbestos is a group of minerals with thin microscopic fibers. Because these fibers are resistant to heat, fire, and chemicals and do not conduct electricity, asbestos has been mined and used widely in the construction, automotive, and other industries.

Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma symptoms commonly do not appear until 20 to 50 years after initial asbestos exposure.

The main symptoms of mesothelioma of the lungs are shortness of breath and chest pain. Accumulation of juice in the pleura caused by the mesothelioma, if sufficiently large, may also contribute to the shortness of breath.

Weight loss

Swelling and pain in the abdomen

Blood clotting abnormalities

Bowel obstruction

Fever

Anemia

If cancer has spread to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, swallowing difficulties, or swelling of the neck or face.

Because many conditions share these symptoms, having these symptoms doesn't necessarily mean you have mesothelioma cancer. It's significant to see your doctor to decide what is causing them.
